Genocide Response

Genocide Response

Question #1: What Is Genocide?
Genocide is to deliberately kill a large quantity of people, especially of a particular nation or ethnic group, to create a prevention of birth, or to create physical or mental to that particular group.

Question #2: What Happened In Rwanda?

Genocide started in Rwanda because the Rwandan and Burundi Presidents were
murdered when their plane was shot down when it was about to land in Kigali,
this happened very soon after they created a fragile peace agreement. This
of which, resulting in them losing control of their country.

Question #3: What Can We Do To Prevent Genocide From Happening?
  • Grow in military, so we have the numbers to stop anything coming.
  • Prevent armed conflict, usually providing the context for genocide.
  • Protect civilians in armed conflict, including UN peacekeepers.
  • End future injuries through law-related action in national and international courts.
  • Gather information and set up an early-warning system.
  • Take fast and reasonable action, including military action.
  • Reduce poverty and stop slaughter with force.

English Term 1 - 10EV

English Term 1 - 10EV

In my first term of year 10, I did many things such as do a competition to create a
poster about making a difference.  We all worked in groups for this task, however our
poster was based off of our respectful attitude. This poster was created with many
respectful things you can do at the school, such as helping someone up, opening the
door, picking someone's books up or even putting your rubbish away!  We wrote
a paragraph of what making a difference means and looks like, and inserted
pictures of making a difference. In the end, me and my desk group (Aaron,
Hannah, Samara) won the poster competition andearned some coupons
for $10 to where ever we want.

We read a book called “The Absolutely True Diary Of A Part-time Indian”.  This book
is about a boy named Junior who goes to a new school called Rearden School.
This school however, is a full white school, he also loses his previous friend named
Rowdy as soon as he enters the school straight after. He starts this school poor,
unable to eat food in the morning, however he makes friends who do have enough
wealth to support him. He experiences multiple deaths while in the school, such
as Eugene’s (Junior’s Dad’s friend) death, Grandmother Spirit’s death or even her
sister’s death.  He plays a basketball against Rowdy’s team, wins, and later
becomes Rowdy’s friend again, while having a fun practise of basketball in the
middle of the night.

After finishing our book, we watched a documentary called “Girl Rising” about 9 girls
who showed their struggles in order to try to get to their dreams.  We have so far
watched what I think is 3 out of the 9 girls’ stories, Including an earthquake and an
attempt of slavery. I also watched a girl who was sold into slavery two or three
times to masters who treated her terribly bad, resulting to having to eat corn
scraps when with her second master.  Eventually this girl however, was set free
from her last master with a song of movement to push her free. I also watched a
girl who was threatened to slavery, however the girl thought back with a dagger
and struck down the man attacking her with a cutlass.
Lastly I remember watching a girl who lived well and happy until an earthquake
struck her town and she
had to work everyday from then-on to live.

We have also been doing multiple Big Questions and Success Tickets throughout
last term.  Big Questions we usually do 2-3 times every week, each containing a
question which we have to answer in 5 or 10 minutes.  We do a Success Ticket
at most 2 times every week, of which we have to explain what did or did not go
well today, and what will we do differently tomorrow.  We work on these to show
our mentor teacher, Ms. Evans, our opinions on things that we do in our English
class. Overall, the Big Questions and Success Tickets are useful for me to say
my opinions on things we do in class, however I prefer to do proper English
instead of keeping a journal of my day every week.  Here are some examples:

Big Question:

Success Ticket:

The piece of work that makes me most proud is my paragraphs on The Absolutely
True Diary book, especially my last paragraph, the one which resulted in me
becoming scholar of the week.
This is my favourite work because it shows me how much work I put into my
paragraphs.
It shows me how much words I write in one of my paragraphs, and how happy
Ms. Evans is from my work ethic.  It shows me why I earned Scholar Of The Week,
on the very last week of the term, and why I put in as much effort as I do.
Overall it shows me how much time and work
into my writing and making as best as physically possible.

I think that many things went well for me this term, especially finishing all of my work.
I completed reading the book with the class (except for when I was sick), resulting in
the Girl Rising documentary afterwards.  I finished my five paragraphs for writing
about which is better, drawing or writing, resulting in both on different occasions.
I finished most of my Big Questions and Success Tickets, the Big Questions
which at least 100 words usually.  Finally, the best thing I finished for this term,
was my best and longest work, my blog post.

Drama Advertisement

One:

  • What was the advertisement you chose to act out?
  • Who was in your group?
  • What were their roles and/or characters?

Two:

  • Which PB4L School-wide Expectation did you use in your advertisement? (Learning - Respect - Responsibility - Safety)
  • How did you show this PB4L expectation?

For drama, we had to create an act from a tv advertisement, so therefore we did ours off of an L+P ad.  I worked with many people in our group, however the main person a worked with was Byron, who was a really good actor, along with Hamish, Hope and Shaun  We played as students of a school who had to deliver the pass to the student who had forgotten it, while Hope played as a teacher and Hamish and Shaun tried to help with our mission.  For our PB4L School-wide Expectation we chose to do responsibility as this is based off trying to show you your responsibilities at the school. We showed this expectation by showing how long it may take to sort out if you do not remember these things yourself.
