8 January 1940: Rationing begins in Britain.
The war had meant a shortage in food because of destruction of land and sinking of supply ships. A National Registry of citizens had been compiled and ration books were distributed.
Rationing was introduced on January 8th 1940 to help prevent hunger.
20 July 1944: Attempted assassination of Hitler.
On 20th July 1944 a group of conspirators attempted to assassinate Adolf Hitler by exploding a bomb in his field headquarters near Rastenburg, East Prussia.
More than 20 people were injured with 4 people dying. Hitler was shielded from the blast by the conference table leg.
The failure of the assassination attempt and the following attempted coup led to the arrest of more than 7000 people with more than half being executed.

Kia ora Aedan,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these two key events on your blog. Both of them are very significant and interesting to read. I like the way you have provided a brief summary to outline what happened on those dates. You have chosen the most important points for each event and made it into a summary. Great work.
Sometimes the back of a book has a short summary about what the story is about. Do you know what this kind of short summary is called?
Keep up the great blogging!
Noho ora mai,
Emiely :)
