Raising Funds

3 Ways I Would Raise Funds In The 1930's

  1.  Open a lemonade stand in the centre of town for all people to enjoy (if lemonade existed back then).
  2. Make toys for children's parents to buy and raise a little extra money.
  3. Open a small petting zoo for children to enjoy along with their parents.

Dealing With Stress, Week 2, Day 3

How I Deal With Stress

Towards stress for me it would usually be from playing a rage game.  However the way I deal with stress is by going to watch a video of a more peaceful game.  Another way I deal with stress is by going outside on the trampoline and having a long jump for however long I want.  If I don't do those I'll likely be going to have a read of a book for at least 10 minutes, that way I'll let my mind focus on only one thing, the topic of my book.

Art Deco, Week 2, Day 2, Part 2

What I'm Rating:
Image result for art deco woman driving car

My Rating:
Image result for 3.5 stars

I've given this rating because although it is delicately and well made, I feel that it should have a little more pizzazz to it, such as there should be something in the background and you can see it, or just look through the car and see it.  Maybe there could be a logo of some sort on the car to indicate something or some place.

The Lion's Cage, Week 2, Day 2

The Lion's Cage

The Lion's Cage was created by Charlie Chaplin, who played as a young man getting chased by a donkey.  In this scene of running away, the man attempts to hide inside a carriage, only to find himself inside a lion cage.  In this comedy-based movie, the man attempts to exit the carriage in one piece without waking up the sleeping beast!  Before escaping this carriage, the man wakes up the lion on mistake thinking he is doomed quickly after, however the lion just comes over to him, sniffs him, and then goes back to it's bed in the corner of the room.  Later he is let out by a woman who had just passed out from seeing the man in the lion cage, after the man gets let out, thinking he is all powerful now, decides to stay in the cage and quickly afterwards, gets scared by the lion thinking it was coming for him.

Voting In Saudi Arabia, Week 2, Day 1, Part 2

Voting In Saudi Arabia

What Do I Think About Woman Voting In Saudi Arabia?  I think that it is better for their community, and I think this is because by including woman into the voting it is an unbiased and fairer vote for the country.  Including woman into the vote means that their voices are heard and people will actually agree with them.  It makes sure that not only men have the pressure to vote and that woman can vote as much as men.  Although they decided to allow woman to vote in 2015, I still think that they should have been able to earlier than that.

Poi Rākau, Week 1, Day 4, Part 2

Name Of Game: Poi Rakau

The Goal Or Purpose Of The Game:  The Goal is to work together as a small group using rākau, passing them to improve hand eye co-ordination without dropping it or hitting other players.

Two Rules For The Game:
1. You may not dig the stick into the ground.
2. As you get more confident, move a step backwards to make other sticks harder to reach.

One Of A Million, Week 1, Day 3

One Of A Million

Well, this is the life, working my arms to the limit harvesting wheat and baking it into bread to share with my 7 other siblings who do nothing to help.  Being the eldest in the family doesn't give you any perks, it seems as if all we're useful for is keeping us alive.  My mother and father haven't given me any glory towards me helping them over the past years and it makes me feel useless.  So when I have to leave my parents I'll make lots of money and wave it right in front of my family's pesky little faces.  They'll ask "Woah, how did you get all that money?", and I'll reply "From working hard, unlike you!"

Wharepuni Structure Week 1, Day 2

Maori Translation: Ko taku Wharepuni rite Whare Ko te rereketanga i waenganui i taku whare me Wharepuni he 1) kaore a Taniwha e haere ana i waho o to whare, 2) kaore he ahua Maori i whakairohia ki to whare. Ko nga rite rite ki te 1) e rua nga wahi he harakeke i waho i te wa e ora ana ahau i te ngahere me te 2) e rua nga rakau e whakamahia ana hei hanga io tatou whare. Na Aedan Gunn 2017

English Translation:

My Wharepuni Like House

The difference between my house and a Wharepuni is 1) we do not have Taniwha roaming around outside our house and 2) we do not have Maori patterns carved into our house.
The similarities include 1) both places have flax outside as I live surrounded by bush and 2) we both have wood used to build our house.

Setting Sail! Week 1, Day 1, Part 2

English Translation:

The Waka Trip

Dear Norman, If you're reading this, I'll be glad to tell you that we're on our way across the pacific ocean in search of land.  Our packed food didn't last long so we had to go fishing on our way there, it was almost as if our waka was an old fashion fishing boat.  Especially because the waka reeked of fish guts and our fishing rods scattered across the waka.  The water had to be purified by the experts on the boat, so while they did that we did more fishing, I caught I small flounder which fed us for a small session of our trip.  Eventually we found land and named it Aotearoa, It may have been the greenest land I had ever seen on our journeys.

Māui And The Giant Fish, Week 1, Day 1

Maori Translation:

Māui me te ika nui

English Translation:

Māui And The Giant Fish

  • I learned how Māui had forged his fishing line with strong woven flax, how he recited his karakia giving his fishing line strength, and how he used his ancient jawbone his ancestor had given him, bounding it securely to the line.
  • I learned about the enormous greed in which Māui's brothers had towards food, how they were extremely selfish towards food, wanting to earn it all by themselves to get all the credit.
  • I learned that the landscape of Aotearoa was formed because of the gigantic parts o giant fish his selfish brothers had claimed for themselves, leaving the rest alone for hundreds and thousands of years forming the landscapes of Aotearoa.

Scenario

Scenario
Vann broke his leg three weeks before basketball Nationals. Vann was feeling really upset and frustrated at breaking his leg because he had been training hard for months and was really looking forward to the tournament for both the competition and social experiences.

As part of Vann’s recovery he has been going to physiotherapy. Jed, who is on the same basketball team as Vann, has been going to physiotherapy with Vann and has been helping Vann with his rehabilitation exercises.

The coach of Vann and Jed’s basketball team asked Vann to still go away with them to Nationals as an assistant coach. That way Vann won’t completely miss out on the tournament and experience the team will have at Nationals.
Describe how Jed and the coach have helped Vann to manage his feelings in relation to the change he has experienced: Jed has been helping Vann with his rehabilitation exercises, and their coach asked him to come as an assistant coach so he wouldn’t completely miss out.

Scenario: Sal's New friend
Sal had been moving for days across the country looking for a new home with his mum, dad and older sister, Shyren.  They travelled and travelled along the road until they came across a place called Geyser City, they bought a small little cottage next to two houses.  Meanwhile while dinner was cooking Sal was packing his computer and toys out of his boxes, while hearing loud music and singing from Shyren’s room.

Sal was getting bored hanging up his posters when all of a sudden there was a knock on the door and heard the door swing open and people talking, he walked down the oak wood spiral staircase and saw a mum and a child his age, he saw that he had a large silver book of what seemed to have stickers on it.  Sal walked down keeping his eyes on the stranger’s eyes, he stared at him for a while and then holded out his hand, which the stranger did shake he said “nice to meet you, my names Darek, you?”.

Darek’s jade green eyes stared curiously into Sal’s aqua blue eyes as he waited for an answer, after a while Sal stopped staring into his eyes and saw that he was waiting for an answer, so he quickly said “Sal” back to him, he seemed to like this name because his large smile grew further.  “I was wondering if you would like to go for a walk, do you” asked Darek, Sal thought and then said “okay then, why not?”, so Darek got some bread out of his fridge and they walked towards a large turquoise lake.

They walked for what felt like hours, but eventually ran out of bread from feeding large mallard ducks, while trying to avoid feeding the bread to the seagulls.  So they walked back to Sal’s house to get back to eat dinner, which was his favourite, it was spaghetti.  He munched through his food and said “I’m going up to bed, night”.  and went up the oak stairs and leaped into his bed to fall asleep.  The next day he got up and made himself some cereal and took said bye to his parents and left to go to his new school.

He was put in a large group of students he didn’t know he was starting to panic until he noticed Darek was sitting by himself at a small table, waiting for class to start.  He went over to Darek and sat down next to him and instantly they starting talking about class, it was only a bit of time until he found out they they were both in the same class.  For the rest of the month they always sat together in class, and ate their lunch together, they even did the same subjects together!  They later became best friends and gained more and more friends every week, until they became the most most liked kids in the entire school.

One day however Darek decided to show Sal his book so Sal read the book and inside it talked all about his friends and how much he liked them or enjoyed their company, the book was almost full as well.  The book said that he had the best time with Sal and never ever wanted to leave him and he felt that if he did, he would never find another friend as great as him.  After he had read the entire book, Sal gave Darek a large tight hug to show that he felt the same about him too.  For the rest of their lives they were the best of friends and always competed in the same activities.

By Aedan 2017
Describe how the identified person/people in your scenario have helped the person in your scenario who is experiencing a change situation to manage their feelings: Darek helped Sal feel at home and joined at playing games with him.  Darek showed Sal his book which grew their bond of each other.

  2. Ask for help.
Anxious
  1. Take a deep breath.
  2. Close your eyes and after a bit, open them.
Nervous
  1. Go slightly slower until you get the hang of it.
  2. Do things over and over so you are super confident before it really happens (e.g if you are doing something on the stage).

What Is A Hero Cycle

A hero cycle starts with a normal person which is usually the hero/main character in this story.  They come across an offer to become a hero, but will usually reject the offer, but then their mentor (this can be anything from a human to an object) will come and support them.  They have to fight monsters to get the treasure, the hero will have a downfall like losing their only weapon, or lose their mentor, but they will continue on.  When they reach the end they eventually get the treasure and start to return home, the place the treasure was in might collapse and they would struggle to get out, however they do make it out and return home.  When returning home they are back living their normal life however they are different to what they usually were, but they are still usually cared for by their families at least.

Aedan's Slideshow Project

A New Beginning

A New Beginning

My blog shows when I was a year 8, talking about primary school things, but now that I’m at high school I’ve got to talk about my class and growth mindset.  I think that high school is a big school, however it’s not so big that I get lost often, it’s a good size and a good experience to learn about the high school.  I think that learning is important because when learning you get smarter and learn more and more things about the topic you're learning about making it quicker to finish learning completely about.  I’m a student at Grey High and my favourite subject at the moment is math, I may not be the best at it, but I do it the most often, meaning I learn lots of new things about math.  The difference between my primary school and my school now is the size, and that Grey High has a cafeteria and lots more classes and teachers. It’s not that worrying anymore because it’s pretty simple to get around when you have the same periods each term.

Incase you didn’t know, growth mindset means that you enjoy learning new things and enjoy being challenged, however fixed mind set means the opposite, you are scared of learning new things thinking you’ll make a fool of yourself and do not enjoy being challenged, meaning they’ll give up easily.  I however think I’m between having a fixed mindset and a growth mindset meaning I’m an average learning student.  Being in between means I’ve got to work harder and try different things to become a growth mindset person.  I think that my knowledge of the school is going well because I am learning where everything is and finding it very easily.  I think I could become a growth mindset student if I just put my mind to it and worked hard for it.

The reason I’m going to Grey High is because it looks like a very nice school, and because my friend Matt was going, and it would be pretty unsettling if I were to go to a school without my friend.  I think I’m an average growth mindset student because I tend to try new things however I usually struggle to put in the effort to complete it well.  The reason I’ve got a chromebook is because we’re learning to be a digital school, so we each need a chromebook for our digital learning and learn how to be cyber safe online with our chromebooks. The reason I have a blog is because we are needed to post something about our class each day on it, it however will probably be about how well or how bad they were on that day.

I was at school one day and I was getting lost, I was panicking walking around the school and not knowing where to to go.  After a bit of time I asked a few teachers where the class was, they told me where it was however I was still confused about where I was supposed to go.  Next I figured to go all the way around the school looking for the classroom, however I ended up going to 9 Social Studies instead of 9 English making me very confused.  After that I went around the school one more time and found my class!  However I was late obviously.  When I got there I found out that we annoyingly had mentor that day without them telling us and I burst out crying getting annoyed at mainly myself, however I was let outside to read and calm down which was helpful.

My opinion about high school is that I think it’s fun, releasing new possibilities to me.  I think that High school isn’t too hard to get around, if you figure out where each place is in the school that is.  High school shows many activities to exercise and have fun around the property of the high school, meaning you need a hat if you are going to go outside that is.  The high school however has one important thing that most of the primary schools don’t have, and that is a cafeteria, they sell chips, soda, pies, ice creams/ice blocks, sushi, American hot dogs and more.  It’s the place to get tasty food at our school.  Overall Grey High is a great school so far and I love exploring it for new things, however the people who work at the school are the best things I could ask for.
